The CSUEB Pollination Lab has a lot of projects happening this year!
Pollination and Grassland Restoration Ecology: With our partners at the Blue Oak Ranch Reserve, we are investigating how common restoration techniques for dealing with invasive grasses affect wildflower and pollinator diversity and plant-pollinator interaction network structure.
Pollinators of the Santa Cruz Redwood Forest: We have completed fieldwork for a study on the pollinators of indicator plant species of old-growth Redwood forest of the Santa Cruz mountains, and how forest management can affect pollinator community.
Pollinators of the California Jewelflower (Caulanthus californicus): With our partners at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and the Bureau of Land Management, Dr. Hazlehurst and student Destiny Mendoza traveled in Spring of 2022 to the incredible Carrizo Plains National Monument to study the pollinators of jewelflower. During fieldwork, Destiny even found a native bee on another endangered plant, Kern mallow!
Hummingbird Diets along Rural:Urban Gradients: We will be using direct observation and DNA metabarcoding to investigate how hummingbird diet varies along the rural to urban gradient in the East Bay area.
